NRA Personal Protection Courses are intermediate defensive pistol courses.
They are:
NRA Personal Protection In The Home NRA Personal Protection Outside The Home. NRA Defensive Pistol. Each of these courses are excellent opportunities for anyone who chooses to arm themselves for personal protection, and each has it's own strong points. NRA Personal Protection In The Home is a one day, 8 hour long class, and will teach you firearms safety, legal, moral, and ethical issues relating to using a firearm to defend yourself, your family and your home while you are within the confines of you own home and it's surrounding area's such as your back yard. You will learn gun and ammunition selection, how to make your home less inviting to predators, and what to do if you encounter someone in your home. There is actual live fire training in this course and will be done with your own firearm and ammunition to more realistically train for a real life encounter. MINIMUM number of shots fired - 100 This is a POST Certified Course Law Enforcement Officers will gain 8 hours of credit, Legal Studies-2 hours, Interpersonal Studies-2 hours Technical Studies-3 hours, Skill Firearms-1 hour ------------------------------------------------------------------------ NRA Personal Protection Outside The Home is a two day, 14 hour class, and will give you insight into the same issues, but teach you how to respond to a threat when you are in unfamiliar surroundings, where you have much less control over the situation, and will not have a safe room to fall back on. It will also build upon the legal issues that are included in the In The Home course, adding additional information as to how defending yourself outside of your home differs in legal restraints. There will be actual live fire training for this course, and will be done with your own handgun and ammunition, to more realistically train for a real life encounter. This is similar to a concealed carry class, but is for students who have already taken the NRA's Basic Pistol Course, or can show knowledge and proficiency with a pistol, and are ready for the next step. Being a 14 hour class, it gives us more time to work with you on understanding legal issues, and more shots will be fired under more varied conditions. So it is a little more advanced than a concealed carry class. It actually could be taken in lieu of a Concealed Carry class If you have already taken the Basic Pistol Course with us, or can demonstrate knowledge and proficiency with a pistol prior to the start of your class. Everything required by the State Of Missouri for a Concealed Carry class is satisfied by the material covered in this class, and goes beyond. MINIMUM number of shots fired - 100 Both of these courses are intensive classes requiring much live fire in somewhat real life situations. NRA Personal Protection In The Home $150 NRA Personal Protection Outside The Home $175 -------------------------------------------------------- Defensive Pistol is another NRA course, that deals with using a handgun in self defense. It has less classroom material than the other two classes, and leans more heavily on shooting. It is very "Objective Based" and can range in time, anywhere from 5 to 8 hours, depending, partially, on student skill. MINIMUM number of shots fired is 150. |
